Chapter 7
Theodoreâs was empty when Lust ushered Deacon inside, just as heâd requested. Quiet jazz music played in the background, and a pleasant smell of fresh baking created a welcoming aroma and comfortable atmosphere.
Deacon stuffed a hand in his pocket, shifted on his feet and frowned as he cast his eyes around the room. âWhere is everyone?â he asked. âItâs barely four in the afternoon.â
Lust clicked his fingers, and a moment later, the manager of the store appeared. He was a portly man with dimples and a tendency to get excited and spill various drinks and food over himself with waving hands. He had excellent taste, a charming personality, and he catered to the Sinsâ every whim with a sincere smile on his face and no ulterior motives other than genuinely wanting to please. A rare breed, and Lust ensured he was kept happy and properly compensated.
âAntony,â Lust greeted him, inclining his head.
âLust,â Antony said, beaming. âSuch a pleasure to have you grace my store. And who is this specimen?â Antony gave Deacon the once-over, and Lust could practically see the measurements sprouting inside his mind. The tailorâs mind never turned off.
âThis is my paramour, Deacon, and he should be treated as you would treat me or one of mine.â Lust ignored Deaconâs sharp look. He didnât need his demons to tell him that he was a fool to give Deacon such consideration, now that he was aware of the lies that Deacon told in every look he gave Lust.
A fool he would be until the end. Lust would wait and see how the rain fell when the clouds opened above them. Only then would he move to act. Perhaps Deacon didnât deserve that chance, but Lust would give it to him anyway.
Antonyâs eyes widened a fraction, lips parting in shock. âOh. Uh.â He recovered quickly. âOf course, of course. A pleasure to make your acquaintance, Deacon. What can we help you with today?â
âHeâs to be outfitted with an entire wardrobe,â Lust answered. âI trust you can accommodate him.â
âSpectacular. Yes. I can do this for you,â Antony said, nodding eagerly.
Lust looked forward to seeing Deacon outfitted here. What a well-tailored suit did to a physique was nothing short of miraculous, enhancing all the best features of the human body. Deacon was already a pleasure to look at. For this gala, he would be incomparable.
Antony wriggled his fingers absently at Deacon as he tapped his chin with his free hand, face twisted in thought.
Deacon watched him warily with narrowed eyes. He reminded Lust of an elk eyeing a lion, unsure if running or standing still was the best way to remain unnoticed. Too bad for Deacon, he was already caught in the predator's trap, and one way or another, he was leaving with at least one new outfit today, and more to be delivered.
âYou know, I got a shipment in yesterday that I think will justââ Antony gestured at Deacon from head to toe, still contemplative. âItâs going to really emphasize all thoseâ¦â
âAll those what?â Deacon asked waspishly, taking a step back.
